2026 is Here!

Editorials Jan 3, 2026

2026 is here. There's a lot challenges in the world right now, so I hope if you're one of the many who are struggling, this year provides some relief - if only brief respite.

2025 saw the birth of the Fediverse.Games Magazine - there's been a few changes of the format and style over the year - and it was completely dormant for a few months too.

As you may or may not be aware, Fediverse.Games isn't just the Magazine - there's also a Mastodon, Peertube and WriteFreely instance as well as a number of different support services. During the latter half of the year, we had a number of service failures and degraded performance. This meant I needed to spend a significant portion of my free time on maintaining and uplifting. As someone working full time (sometimes with significant unpaid overtime - yay corporate life!), extra, unbudgeted time I need to spend putting out fires on the Fediverse.Games infrastructure is less time I can spend doing the things I enjoy, like writing, making content, gaming and just generally chilling out.

I won't spend any further time discussing this (as there's a separate blog that covers operational matter for Fediverse.Games), but things are looking significantly better now. There's still some work to be done - but we're strong and much more resilient.

I've found myself getting back into Warhammer 40,000 - and after Christmas I've been excitedly putting together a Necrons combat patrol box and will soon begin painting them up. Being more actively involved in the hobby should allow me to write more about it too - and you may have noticed our first article covering some new battleforce announcements earlier in the week. It was always the plan to cover tabletop and board games as part of this magazine, so it's been good to make a start on that.

You've probably also noticed a significantly increased cadence in terms of articles being released. I'm currently on holidays from work during Christmas shutdown, so I wouldn't expect this to continue into late January and beyond, but I'm hoping to still continue posting a little bit more frequently than I previously have.

We're always on the lookout for more writers, so if you want to make a contribution (whether that be a single article, or something more (in)frequent), please get in touch with me over on Mastodon - I'd love to chat about it!

To finish this one off on a personal note, I wanted to give my thanks to PerfectDark/dash for her contributions during the early part of our existence. She's an excellent writer (way above the standards of this website) - and her contributions have inspired me to try to be just that little bit better a writer.

I hope everyone had a good new years and holiday period, and hopefully 2026 treats you well!
