007 First Light Cops Two Month Delay
IO Interactive have announced the game will now be dropping on 27 May 2026, and have stated the delay is also about polishing the experience for players.
We previously reported that IO Interactive's 007 First Light received a 27 March 2026 release date at a special Sony State of Play presentation, which featured a deep dive into the title's gameplay.
Today, in a last minute Christmas press release, IO Interactive have announced the game will be missing its release date, and will instead be releasing on 27 May 2026.
It doesn't seem to be all bad news for hopeful players though, with IO Interactive confirming that the game is currently in a fully playable state end-to-end, with the delay appearing to be more on the polishing side of things.
"these additional two months will allow us to further polish and refine the experience, ensuring we deliver the strongest possible version at launch. We're confident this sets 007 First Light up for long-term success, and we sincerely appreciate the patience and continued support we've received ever since we revealed the game."
The delay also coincides with Grand Theft Auto VI announcing a delay from 26 May 2026 date to 19 November 2026 - it seems fairly obvious that IO's announcement is more or less a direct response to Rockstar's.
The sequence of events probably should prompt some thinking around whether IO was willing to risk releasing a playable but unpolished game to avoid GTA VI's release window, rather than hold it back to ensure a polished product but risk sitting on a completed game longer than it needed to.
In any case, IO Interactive's track record (especially after becoming independent again) has shown their games to be solid quality at launch and supported over their life with patches and QoL updates, so there's nothing to suggest 007 First Light would be any different regardless of its release date.
007 First Light will now release on 17 May 2026 for the Nintendo Switch 2, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
